ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
School of Mathematics and Computer Applications, Thapar University is organizing the XIII annual conference of society for special functions and their applications. This conference will provide a common platform for interaction, exchange of ideas and latest development in the field of Special Functions and various related fields of Mathematical sciences. The day to day activities during the conference are designed to be interactive, involving sessions like plenary lectures, invited talks and paper presentation sessions, covering a wide range of topics including Special Functions, Lie Theory, Orthogonal Polynomials, Fractional Calculus, Number Theory, Combinatorics, q-theory etc.

The organizers of the conference invite papers for presentation. The full length paper (along with abstracts not exceeding 150 words) intended for presentation should be sent preferably by email email@example.com) or by post to

Papers are also invited for the following Prizes:
A. K. Agarwal Prize for Best Publication of the Year of the Year carrying a certificate and cash prize will be awarded to a Mathematician (below 45 years of age) working at an Indian University/ Institute for his paper Published/ Accepted in the previous year (i.e. 2013) of the Conference in the areas influenced by Ramanujan which includes special functions, number theory, q-series, mock theta functions etc. Applicants for this prize should send three hard copies by post and a soft copy as email attachment of their papers to Prof. A.K. Agarwal, Centre for Advance Study in Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh 160014 (firstname.lastname@example.org) along with the copy of the acceptance letter if the paper has been accepted but not published by August 14, 2014. The papers submitted in this category should be under single authorship.
Aruna Gupta Prize and M. I. Qureshi Prize for Best Paper Presentation, each carrying a certificate and a cash prize will be given to an Indian Mathematician (below 35 years of age). However the accommodations in University guest house/ hostels are subject to availability/first-come-first-serve basis. The Hotel accommodation will be available on your own expenses.
ABOUT THE HOST UNIVERSITY
Thapar University came into existence in 1956 as an engineering college named Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology to produce high quality professionals to cater for the needs of newly Independent India. The institute was granted full autonomy and status of a deemed university in 1985 by the University Grant Commission. The university offers academic programs at Undergraduate, Postgraduate and doctorate levels at various disciplines. Since its inception, the university has grown in size and activities with its alumni excelled within the industry, academics and administration both in India and abroad.
Patiala district is one of the famous princely states of erstwhile Punjab. Forming the south-eastern part of the state, it lies between 29°49’ and 30°47’ north latitude, 75°58’ and 76°54' east longitude. It is the fourth largest city in the state and is located around the Qila Mubarak (the Fortunate Castle). It is surrounded by the districts of Fatehgarh Sahib & Rupnagar and the Union Territory of Chandigarh in the north, Sangrur district in the west, Ambala and Kurukshetra districts of neighboring state of Haryana in the east and Kaithal district of Haryana in the south. In popular culture, the city remains famous for its traditional turban (a type of headgear), paranda (a tasseled tag for braiding hair), patiala salwar (a type of female trousers) jutti (a type of footwear).
TRAVEL AND ACCOMODATION
By Rail: From New Delhi,
take New Delhi- Bhatinda Inter City Express or the Shatabdi Express to Ambala, and then hire a taxi for the drive
By Road: Patiala lies just off the excellent National Highway #1 (Delhi-Amritsar) and is about 250 Km from Delhi.
The journey via Ambala Cantt. takes about 5 hours. You can also drive to Patiala from Chandigarh, via Zirakpur (on NH 22),

By Air: Patiala is not having any international/domestic airport .The nearest International Airports are at Delhi
and Amritsar. The Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi is at a distance of around 250 Km from Patiala.
The International Airport Amritsar is around 235 Km from Patiala. The nearest Domestic Airport is at Chandigarh
which is around 70 Km from Patiala. The exact flight schedules should be checked from the official website of
these airports or the Airlines.
Accommodation: Patiala has a few budget and 3-star hotels. However, Chandigarh and Ludhiana, both over an hour's
drive away, offer varied options, including deluxe hotels. The Hotel accomodation for the participants can be arranged on actual payment basis, some of the options are as below.
